During this virtual meeting, we will divide into discipline-focused groups to explore how to integrate social action into the various fields—including environmental studies, humanities, social work, social sciences, and others.

3:05-3:30 pm — Small Group
Break into discipline-focused groups (see below), and in the group, introduce yourselves, and then discuss:
- How does your social action class connect to your academic discipline. For example, social action connects with the Social Work Standards or with Sociology's "sociological imagination."
- Discuss how your motivation to teach social action connects to your discipline.
Write a brief statement (1-4 sentences) describing how social action aligns with your field of study.
3:30-3:50 pm — Large Group
Share your brief statement and what you discussed in the small group.
3:50-4:15 pm— Small Group
- Work together to expand your brief statement. Choose one group member to write up a formal draft Discipline Statement in the coming weeks, and share it with your group for feedback. This person will also serve as the contact person for Bobby and Scott about your group. Our goal is to have each Discipline Group submit a 1-2 page “final version” to Bobby and Scott by August 15th for inclusion in our Companion Guide, website, to faculty who apply to the Institute, and Institutes.
- If your Discipline Group has additional energy and interest, please consider the following possible next steps:
- Present your Discipline Statement at a conference. Please share names of interested group members during the large group discussion
- Develop the Discipline Statement into a monograph. Someone would need to volunteer to be an editor(s) and find contributors to write the articles. if interested, please share names of interested folks during the large group session.
- Contact disciplinary conference organizers about hosting an Institute as a pre-conference event. If interested, please share the names of interested folks.
- Other ideas? Please share in the large group.
4:15 pm -4:30— Large Group
- Report out from the Discipline Groups; put names in the chat that signed up for the possible activities. Discuss the possibility of these Discipline Groups meeting in the future, and perhaps recruiting more TSA faculty.
