Overview
Please join us on Monday, June 30, from 3-4:30 pm EST, to discus how we can mainstream the teaching of social action across the disciplines.
During this virtual meeting, we will divide into discipline-focused groups to explore how to integrate social action into the various fields—including environmental studies, humanities, social work, social sciences, and others.

Agenda
3:05-3:30 pm — Small Group
Break into discipline-focused groups (e.g., environmental studies, humanities, social work, social science, and others) and do the following things:
- Share your syllabus and discuss how your class connects to your academic discipline.
- Write a brief statement describing how social action aligns with your field of study. For example, social action connects with Social Work Standards or with Sociology's "sociological imagination."
3:30-3:50 pm — Large Group
Share what you discuss in small groups and share your brief statements.
3:50-4:15 pm— Small Group
- Work together to expand your brief statements into 1-2 pages. Choose one group member to write a draft statement and share it with the group for feedback. Submit the final version to Bobby and Scott by August 1st for inclusion in our Companion Guide. This represents our goal for your group.
- If your group has additional energy and interest, please consider these next steps with your 1-2 page statement:
- Expand it and present it at a conference. Please share names of interested group members during the large group discussion
- Develop it into a monograph with contributions from various social action faculty. We would need volunteer editors—if interested, please share names during the large group session.
- Would anyone in your group be interested in contacting the main disciplinary conference organizers about potentially hosting an Institute as a pre-conference event? If so, please share the names during the large group session.
4:15 pm -4:30— Large Group
- Report out from groups; put in chat the names that signed up for the various activities.
