I am the Director of the Center for Climate Action and Sustainability and member of the faculty here at Evergreen. My work focuses on building a community for climate action and learning through the CCAS and the programs that I teach. Over the last year, I developed and taught the Climate Policy and Action Certificate Program in PACE to help students learn about climate science, the policy process, and different approaches to climate advocacy. I recently co-edited a book, Urban Climate Justice (UGA Press 2023), and have written about energy transitions, urban political ecology, critical theory, and more. My current research focuses on energy justice, electricity infrastructure, and net-zero energy strategies in the Pacific Northwest.

Education

Ph.D., Urban Studies and Planning, Portland State University, 2016; M.S., Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, 2010; B.S., Mechanical Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, 2009.

Teaching Style

I approach teaching as an opportunity for collective work that builds capacities in our learning communities (including students, faculty, community partners, and more). In programs that I offer, we collectively identify critical questions, systematically collect and analyze evidence for answering these questions, and apply new insights to emerging environmental issues and their intersections with social inequalities. My goal is to help students prepare for success in their educational and career pathways, and to contribute to positive societal change.
