Course Description:
"EmpowerED" is a dynamic service-learning course that immerses students in the theory and practice of community organizing, emphasizing a social action lens for creating positive social change. This course goes beyond traditional classroom settings, providing students with hands-on experiences and opportunities to engage directly with communities. Throughout the semester, students will explore the principles of community organizing, grassroots mobilization, and advocacy strategies. The curriculum is designed to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand, analyze, and address pressing social issues within diverse communities. By the end of the course, students will have gained practical experience in community organizing and a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding social change efforts. "EmpowerED" equips students with the tools and perspectives needed to be effective agents of change in a variety of social contexts.
