Course Description:
This course examines human rights frameworks in a global One Health context. Students will identify social issues, examine power structures, group dynamics, strategy and tactics, and engage in campaign planning for implementation of social policy to create social change. Students will explore the concept of One Health; the health of humans, animals, and ecosystems as interconnected and interdependent; the conceptual framework that encompasses many related fields of study including, but not limited to, human and veterinary medical sciences, agricultural sciences, food safety, public health and epidemiology, environmental health and toxicology, wildlife ecology and conservation. This is an experiential learning course which situates the student in an action oriented model. Through experiential social action, students read about theories of social change and apply it to real world campaigns they have selected. Students will define a social problem and develop concrete, quantifiable solutions to address that problem.
