Course Description:

This course provides the students with an overview of the key theoretical and practical approaches to understanding why violent conflicts (often referred to as intractable, deep-rooted, or protracted) happen and the different ways in which they can be addressed and transformed to build sustainable peace. An entire course section is dedicated to promoting positive social change (without resourcing to violence). A total of five sessions will engage with strategic nonviolence and therefore, social action and activism will add a hands-on approach to this rather more theoretical course.
