Course Description:
This class is on the books in our college as a graduate class, and the course title has sometimes been used for special topics undergraduate classes. I'd have to speak with my department chair (and probably another, as many of our classes are cross-listed) in order to amend the existing description, which is: "This course examines the strategic use of communication to achieve social change at a community and/or national level. Focusing on participatory approaches and the use of traditional and emerging technology by not-for-profit and private sector organizations, students explore how public relations and advertising strategies are employed to collaboratively address community issues and needs. The course has an emphasis on communication efforts led by or for identity-based and/or marginalized communities, with the aims of collective action, framing issues and behavioral change. Through a case study approach, students learn the planning, (from formative research, to designing strategies and tactics) implementation and evaluation process of a communication for social change campaign.”
