Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I want to design my courses as social action and service learning courses and work with community agencies.
Course Description:
I'll add restorative and transformative justice: This course examines alternatives to traditional forms of punishment. Restorative justice is a state-sanctioned approach that focuses on the needs of victims, holding harm-doers accountable for their actions, and repairing harm among affected parties. Transformative justice, in contrast, is a social movement and philosophy that works outside the state to prevent harm and respond to it in ways that do not create more violence and harm. Drawing from criminological and sociological theory and research, it focuses on the histories of these approaches and how they compare to punitive ones, how they are manifested in practice, and their potential to prevent, reduce, and repair harms.
