Motivation to Teach Social Action:

I'm starting a new faculty position and will be building and/or redesigning courses in the next few semesters. I have a strong interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and my research interests are in behavioral community psychology, global justice, and community action (activism). I serve as the editor for a social action-focused journal - Behavior and Social Issues. The confluence of my interests and opportunities closely aligns with the content and goals of this program.

Course Description:

Course Description:

This course will integrate principles of behavioral community psychology and social action with emphasis on sustainability, access to education and healthcare, and supporting unhomed populations. Students will engage in community-based participatory action research to address locally identified needs. The course combines theoretical frameworks with practical applications, enabling students to develop skills in culturally-responsive approaches to community engagement. Through collaborative projects with community partners, students will learn to design, implement, and evaluate interventions that promote positive social change.
