Motivation to Teach Social Action:
As a sociologist, I teach my students the theory and methods behind understanding social interactions, experiences, identities, conflicts, and movements. However, our students often want to move beyond basic science theory and methods to tackle direct social and policy change. As academics, we're often much more skilled at teaching the former than the latter and I want to change that so that I'm able to provide better, more holistic instruction on effective social change strategies.
Course Description:
Social structural and social psychological perspectives on gender identity, sex category, and sexuality. Issues related to gender identity and sexuality in selected societal institutions and across cultures.
