Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I will be teaching a new course I am designing, Rhetoric and Public Advocacy, in Fall 2025. As I plan to incorporate both analyses of and production of an advocacy campaign, this institute seems like it would help me design the campaign project for the class.
Course Description:
This course provides opportunities for students to learn common rhetorical strategies used in public advocacy by focusing on historical and contemporary social justice movements, institutional discourses, and backlash against them. In addition to learning about how others have employed rhetoric of public advocacy, students will also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge by creating their own persuasive interventions to advocate for social justice issues.
