Motivation to Teach Social Action:

to determine how best to integrate research and academic with social action

Course Description:

The liberal state is believed to be justified to the extent that it protects the individual's liberty. The individual's freedom to express herself however stops at the moment where she harms society or any one of its members. Our focus in the course will be to explore the nature of liberal individuality, examine the constituents of the justification of negative and positive liberty and their ramification for national issues of intervention and Identity. We shall also explore the justifications for the establishment, the maintenance and the actions of the state apparatus especially as it confronts immigration, patriarchy and racism.
