Creating a course that is interdisciplinary that allows students across varying disciplines.
Course Description:
What do we know about the health of men? And is it worth allocating resources towards it, or is that what we are currently doing enough? This course invites students to explore the field of public health, introducing the major issues of public health with a focus on the United States, and dive into how men's health is impacted using an interdisciplinary approach. We will use public health and other social sciences frameworks to examine historical and contemporary public health issues, factors that determine the health of populations, and how individuals, communities and populations' health may be impacted. While a breadth of topics will be covered, race, gender, sexuality, and class will be central to this course as areas of critical investigation for the class. Although an interdisciplinary course, this course also provides a good introduction to public health for students who are curious or wish to pursue public health as a future career or integrate it into their disciplines of study.
