Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I deeply believe in the power of the people and the will of our communities to do good and create amazing systems. I would like to be a part of helping our youth build the skillset, tools and confidence to make these changes.
Course Description:
The course focuses on outreach and social action, aiming to empower youth with the skills, tools, and confidence to create positive change in their communities. Students engage in community-based projects including improving green spaces on campus, advocating for campus funds to address student basic needs, reducing light pollution, strengthening social services, and working with the sustainability department to secure funding for student-led sustainability initiatives.
The course meets once per week for 90-minute sessions over a 15-week semester and is taught in person at Santa Monica College. It is scheduled to be taught in Spring 2027 by Mahtaub Golab, who will shadow an experienced professor during Fall 2026 as preparation.
