Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I am interested in learning how to integrate social action into my teaching and connect academic knowledge with meaningful community engagement. I would like to adapt my graduate-level course "Migration and Development" so that students can apply sociological theories and research to real-world migration-related challenges. Through the program, I hope to develop practical and inclusive teaching strategies that will enable students to design evidence-based social action campaigns and contribute to positive social change.
Course Description:
This graduate-level course examines the relationship between migration and social, economic, demographic, and political development. Students explore major migration theories, migration patterns and policies, integration processes, transnationalism, social inequality, and the experiences of migrant communities. The course combines theoretical perspectives with contemporary case studies and sociological research. The proposed social action component will enable students to identify a migration-related issue, engage with relevant communities and stakeholders, and develop an evidence-based campaign aimed at raising awareness or promoting inclusive social change.
