Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I am developing a service learning course on civil leadership, social justice advocacy and professional skills
Course Description:
Still working on it but tentatively: This course examines human behavior and social interaction within the context of value systems, community organizations, economic structures, political institutions, social groups, and natural environments. Students explore the foundations of civic engagement and ethical leadership through the study of motivation theory, social systems, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and application of their learning by diagnosing and addressing social needs.
Through critical analysis, reflective practice, and community-based engagement, students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for active participation in civic society. The course emphasizes transferable competencies essential for the 21st-century workforce, including ethical decision-making, communication, collaboration, systems thinking, and socially responsible leadership.
Students assess their own values, strengths, and leadership capacities while applying course concepts to real-world social issues. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to act as informed, reflective, and engaged leaders within their communities and future professions. [1]
