Motivation to Teach Social Action:

I am a clinical assistant professor in social work with experience integrating experiential learning into my courses as they relate to social action and advocating for vulnerable populations within different systems: micro, mezzo, and macro. The Teaching Social Action Institute will be beneficial in my professional development and aligns with our Purdue University Northwest Strategic Plan, “… developing leaders through experiential learning, student-centered pedagogy and celebrating student success.”

Course Description:

In this experiential learning course, students will learn to design and implement a social action campaign that addresses a contemporary social issue. Drawing on the Grand Challenges for Social Work from the American Academy of Social Work and Welfare, as well as the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, students will integrate these frameworks into their campaign strategy.
