Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I am currently teaching a course that introduces students to interdisciplinary and integrative studies that combines career readiness curriculum with experiential learning. The EL component has been issues driven and I would like to develop that in a more rigorous way as it prepares students for the research methods and capstone courses that they take later on in the majors (IDS/GLIS).
Course Description:
This course provides an introduction to interdisciplinary social science ways of thinking, knowing, and acting in the world that we share. Students work to develop integrative approaches for understanding and attending to complex social problems experienced at the level of the local community. Students will be provided with career readiness preparation in an experiential learning environment by working directly within local communities to better understand what makes them work, how they persist, and what might help them thrive.
