Fall 2026; I teach it along with additional sections every fall and spring
I am interested in participating in this course development program because I am committed to designing learning experiences that move beyond discussing social issues to equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to create meaningful change in their communities. As a social work educator, I strive to integrate experiential learning into my courses so that students not only understand social justice, advocacy, and systems change conceptually, but also have opportunities to practice these competencies in real-world settings.
Yes,
The course I plan to enhance is a graduate-level Foundations of General Practice with Groups course for Master of Social Work students. Because group work is grounded in collaboration, empowerment, mutual aid, and community engagement, students have opportunities to explore how groups can create change beyond the clinical setting. Based on the focus of the course, students might choose to develop campaigns addressing issues such as access to behavioral health services, reducing mental health stigma, substance use recovery supports, affordable housing, food insecurity, domestic violence prevention, youth development, support for older adults, disability inclusion, or improving access to community resources. Students may also choose issues that emerge from the needs of the communities in which they live or complete their field placements.
