Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I am an activist scholar. I teach in Africana. There is a paucity of support in this pwi to strategize/support students and faculty of color.
Course Description:
This course explores the intersections of food, culture, and justice within the African diaspora. It examines how foodways are shaped by historical, social, and economic forces, and how they can serve as a lens to understand broader issues of representation, participation, and equity. Through a combination of discussion, research, and community engagement, students will critically analyze the role of food in cultural identity and social action.
