Motivation to Teach Social Action:
Acquiring skills to engage students in learning about and implement social change within the context of child development.
Course Description:
Students will examine the definitions, understandings and historical context of the terms diversity and social justice as well as its use in efforts to address intersecting oppressions. This course will also explore current trends in the use of these terms and their potential for advocacy through research and professional practice with young children and their families. Students will have an opportunity to consider advocacy efforts for families with young children through the lens of theories and philosophies related to diversity and social justice.
