Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I have always been interested in social justice and social advocacy. This would be a great opportunity to learn more about bringing this important information to our students.
Course Description:
This course aims to provide a multicultural and transformative learning experience for developing culturally competent and anti-racist social workers for generalist practice. Students will engage in personal and professional reflections to cultivate an inclusive understanding of diversity, oppression, power, privilege, and empowerment within the context of race, culture, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, and other forms of difference. Through this course, students will develop effective communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and a compelling sense of social and civic responsibility. They will learn anti-racist practice methods, utilize the ecological perspective in working with diverse client systems, and connect course content to historical, real-world, and current local, national, and international events.
