Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I am involved in creating a new major (Inequalities and Social Justice) which will revolve around social action/change. I also teach a Sociology of Food course that is designed around experiential and active learning techniques. I have taken several ACUE courses on these topics over the past three years and would like to expand upon what I've learned to better utilize active learning/social engagement in the classroom.
Course Description:
This course serves as the Capstone for the Inequalities and Social Justice major. It allows students to explore and address specific aspects of social inequalities, such as housing access, food access, policing, educational resources, and health inequities. Through active and experiential learning, students will engage deeply with social justice issues and develop actionable strategies for effecting change.
