Motivation to Teach Social Action:

I am always looking for new and innovative ways of getting my students involved in creating social change, as well as putting theory into practice.

Course Description:

This Capstone project, in collaboration with Portland Playhouse, is a transformative initiative aimed at addressing oppressive narratives, tropes, and the experiences of its artists and community members. By utilizing Critical Race Theory, Goffman’s Dramaturgical Theory, and various movies, shows, and readings, PSU students will critique production scripts, develop reports and feedback, and identify best practices for promoting community healing and accountability in the upcoming production season. This project, with its TalkBack activities and resources designed for the production team and community members, has the potential to inspire hope and bring about positive change. Our goal is to amplify the voices that have been silenced, as we believe in owning our stories.
