I am interested in having students understand the social justice principles of Africana cultures, societies, histories and movements in an experiential, project-based learning context. I look forward to learning more about this topic from my colleagues in the program.

Experience

I have taught courses (AFR 100, 101, 200), that challenge students to develop their own social justice projects, but would like to enhance my ability to teach this type of course.

Engagement Description

Issues of police brutality, international supply-chain labor abuses, racial wealth gap issues, gender inequality, gender-based violence, issues of sexuality, and cultural appropriation and exploitation.

How can an experiential approach help us better understand the relationship between Leadership and Liberation within an Africana Studies and Leadership Studies framework? How can I develop assignments and lesson content that explore and apply principles of ethical leadership to contemporary society? How do we define principles of ethical leadership from the genealogy of Black Liberation Movements? How can experiential pedagogies be used to evaluate the philosophical arguments, ethical criticisms, and social solutions proposed by the Black leaders considered in this course?
