No Student Alone (NSA)

No Student Alone (NSA)

Demands

Demand 1: No Student Alone demands that PNW actively promote its mental health services, such as the Counseling Center and Community Counseling Center, through monthly email announcements, all student tours and orientations, and required classroom presentations and signs specifying counseling center availability, location, and all requirements and restrictions listed in all classrooms and public spaces at all times.

Demand 2: No Student Alone demands that PNW's Counseling Center reduce student wait times for appointments by expanding capacity through additional staffing and extended hours to weekends, evenings, and holidays, which will cost an average of $75,000 per hire.

Demand 3: No Student Alone demands that PNW establish a peer support program led by five graduate students in the Couples & Family Therapy and Social Work programs, aiding in evening and weekend staffing and, in turn, being applicable to practicum hours, and a semester stipend for participants.

Purdue University Northwest

As our campaign came to an end, we collected 73 survey responses from Purdue University Northwest students and secured 60 individuals who formally signed up to support the No Student Alone campaign. The majority of respondents indicated that they have not utilized the Counseling Center due to limited and conflicting hours, delayed callbacks, feelings of being judged or unimportant, and a lack of awareness that the Counseling Center exists. Notably, 95 percent of respondents reported feeling overwhelmed and stated they would be more likely to utilize counseling services if appointments were accessible within their schedules. Although the campaign did not progress to a formal action stage, the data gathered, relationships initiated, and level of student engagement demonstrate the campaign’s significance. This work has helped surface unmet student needs, legitimize student concerns through evidence, and establish a foundation upon which future students can build a more sustained and impactful campaign to strengthen mental health services at PNW.
