Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I would really like to support my teaching and course development further for Introduction to Social Justice and Introduction to Gender Studies by participating in this teaching institute. I am excited to learn from other teachers and scholars about social justice framework for pedagogy.
Course Description:
Introduction to Social Justice will introduce students to the intersectional study of inequality (no prerequisites required). We will discuss how topics of education, family, body, home/institutions, and nature/environment are constructed in society. Each of these larger culturally situated concepts will be unpacked with particular emphasis on gender, race, sexuality, and class in mind. We will explore systemic barriers and challenges vulnerable members of society face, and how authority figures/leadership respond to community issues.
