In 2015, Scott Myers-Lipton (SML) first wrote a textbook for students — CHANGE! A Student Guide to Social Action — that follows the flow of his social action course. Then in 2023, Scott wrote a second book — CHANGE! A Guide to Teaching Social Action — for faculty and staff to teach this model. To support this book, we created CHANGE! A Companion Guide to Teaching Social Action, which provides a multi-media presentation of the faculty guide (red book) to provide additional support to help faculty and staff teach social action. Lastly, SML’s course reader is provided to see the types of material (i.e., articles, videos, and portfolios) used in Scott’s course.
CHANGE! A Student Guide to Social Action helps students learn how to bring about the change they believe will improve their community.

Testimonial for CHANGE! Student Guide (blue book)
Just three weeks into the semester, I can see that my students have already carried out as many actions as they accomplished all semester long last year without the book. The narrative is compelling, the examples from prior college student campaign successes are inspiring, and the focus on policy change is pushing my students to make clearer and more focused demands.
Dr. Miriam Shakow, Anthropology, The College of New Jersey
CHANGE! A Guide to Teaching Social Action is for faculty and staff who want to develop a college course or co-curricular experience using social action.

Testimonial for CHANGE! Teacher Guide (red book)
If you are thinking of teaching a course that engages students in social action, this is the book for you. Unlike other books about social action, this one is written with college students in mind, so it takes into account the limited timeframe of a regular semester/term. Myers-Lipton covers every step, from theory to practice, to get students to learn about and, more importantly, to DO democracy. This is the blueprint everyone needs to teach social action, whether you are just beginning or already have experience.
Professor Laura Barrio-Villar, English, U. of Arkansas, Little Rock
CHANGE! A Companion Guide to Teaching Social Action is designed to be read along with CHANGE! A Guide to Teaching Social Action in order to prepare participants who will be attending one of our virtual or in-person Teaching Social Action Institutes.
