Description
Students from Social Action were part of a multi-year campaign to get the President to develop a response to the student homeless crisis. San Jose is #1 in youth homelessness in the nation, and SJSU has over 4,000 students a year end up homeless for at least one night. Before the target meeting with the President, students held a rally, which was covered by CBS News (3-4-2019).
The documentary was created by the Spartan Daily, the campus news agency. They followed a group of SJSU students who were a part of a social action class. The documentary includes several campaign actions, preparation for the target meeting, and the results of that meeting. Watch as the students are making the final touches to their meeting strategy, as well as what they should say to the local press about the results.
Below a group of San Jose State University social action students set up tents and slept outside Thursday night to bring awareness to the homeless crisis they said thousands of them face every year. Maria Medina reports. (12-6-18)
