Description
In 2006, in response to Hurricane Katrina, SJSU students in a social action course, created the Gulf Coast Civic Works Project, which called on the federal government to develop 100,000 living wage public work jobs to rebuild the region. This Fox News story highlights the students kickoff event. The students worked with their Gulf Coast allies and events were also held on the same day in New Orleans at the Federal Building and at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
This short video highlights a social action student march on the 2nd Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which was the largest march outside of the Gulf Coast. A student from CSU Monterey Bay, and from the Gulf Coast, drove almost 2 hours to San Jose State, to film it.
