Title
Department Coordinator & Associate Faculty
School Name
Prescott College
Department
Social Justice and Community Organizing
Engagement Description
Labor issues, international refugee support and organizing, and student organizing (1/3 of SJCO students are educators). In Fall 2024, students will also be focusing on the 2024 election, the ongoing genocide in Palestine, and mapping their local organizing ecosystems in the communities they are working in.
Experience
Yes. I've taught several social action-oriented courses at Prescott College, including Anti-Racist Organizing to undergraduate students and Organizing 1-4, Mobilizing Change, Leadership Development, Advocacy Research, Community Journalism for Social Movements, and Strategic Media & Communications in the SJCO program. The anti-racist community journalism curriculum that I am developing is also a social action project.
Interest
As long-time faculty in SJCO, and a new Department Coordinator, I have been tasked with updating our SJCO courses so that they are better meeting the needs of the communities our students organize in, as well as our graduates. This efforts requires us to be strategic and intentional. However, I also know that I have so much to learn about course development and so I am excited to participate in this program as I believe it will serve every course in our SJCO program.
