Course Description:
This course is designed to provide advanced exposure to current research and practice in leading for equity and inclusion within professional educational settings. This course is geared toward deepening students’ understanding of the challenges, techniques, and burdens associated with initiating and implementing major change in an organization through experiential projects that focus on social justice. Throughout the course, the objective will be to prepare students to meet the challenges of organizational change successfully with a strong conceptual foundation in leadership theories that enhance equity in terms of access, student outcomes, and institutional culture, There’s an emphasis on the application of leadership approaches to real-world administrative settings in educational and human service contexts and the key assessment will highlight the utilization of critical service learning. The course is practice-oriented and utilizes class discussion, personal reflections, and case studies in leadership to prepare students for taking actions in their own practice that promote equity and inclusion
