Engagement Description

This past Fall we had students focused on food justice and equity and they composed a food system assessment for a local nonprofit. We've also done community engagement with K-12 schools, health programs, and nonprofits in our local area. I believe focusing a section on a specific social issue, especially those that impact our students such as transportation, access to education, and food security, will be most engaging for students.

Experience

I have not! I am eager to take the next step beyond capacity building focused community engaged pedagogies.

Interest

I teach a service-learning course and would love to have more social action elements. I'm looking for readings and examples of projects, as well as strategies for revising this course.

How did you hear about opportunity

My colleague, Jessica Perone, with the Center for Civic Engagement at Washington State University recommended the program.

When Taught

I teach it every Fall and Spring.

Thanks for your email, Scott! I’ve been swamped with summer teaching but that wraps up in a few days. I am excited to participate and have been reading the books, yes. Being grouped with the humanities folks works well for me, yes. I will have to leave a little early on the 12th (1PM Pacific time). Otherwise, I’m excited to be present and learn with the group next week.
