Course Description:

SWRK 7022, Communities and Organizations is a required foundation course designed to prepare students to apply evidence-based interventions to social work practice with groups, organizations and communities. The course emphasizes mezzo and macro practice skills/roles, evidence based theories, problem solving processes, group dynamics, phases of group development, leadership structure, organization practice and community interventions. Issues inherent to diversity, at-risk populations and social justice are integrated into the course. The purpose of the course is to develop understanding and skills related to the complexities of practice with groups, organizations and communities. Social workers must master the knowledge and set of skills targeted in this course to engage in effective evidence-based social work with diverse groups, organizations and communities.
