Course Description:
An examination of art education within the curricular structure of educational programs and the developmental growth of children. Students will explore the historical, philosophical, and sociological foundations of art in education, including the current status of art education. Students will develop an understanding of the history of and current issues in art education, gain service-learning experience and build knowledge of socio-cultural issues in education, including race, gender, ethnicity, socio-economic status, and develop awareness for the need for culturally sustaining pedagogy in art education.
