Course Description:
Religion and Social Change" is a course that delves into the role of religion in empowering BIPOC communities to resist and challenge oppressive systems and structures. The course explores how social movements within BIPOC faith communities have emerged, developed, and continuously challenged the status quo. It aims to help those who aspire to new visions of freedom for all people beyond racial injustice and oppression. Throughout the course material, the focus is on how religions affirm the humanity of BIPOC people and have relied on foundational tenets to actively challenge and resist systemic oppression while promoting equity and justice. Students taking this course will explore defining agency within a religious community and attaining modes of flourishing in restrictive contexts.
