Course Description:

This is an upper division undergraduate course that introduces the sociology of race and ethnic minorities and explores inter-group relations in the U.S. This course explores the variety of experiences within groups, paying particular attention to the intersection of gender with race and ethnicity. While the focus is on minority groups in the U.S., it also includes comparative, cross-national coverage of group relations in other societies. We aim to understand how minorities are inseparable from the larger American experience. By taking this course students will also develop ethnocultural empathy and enhance their sensitivity to political and cultural issues associated with race and ethnicity,
