Course Description:

Between global epidemics of under/overnutrition, unprecedented air and water pollution, the unrelenting impoverishment and dispossession of small farmers, and grinding labor exploitation across the food chain, the problems of our global industrial capitalist food system are legion. Starting from the understanding that our food problems are 1) all intertwined with broader cultural, political, economic, historical, and ecological factors and 2) produced by the way our food system is structured, this class asks, now what? Specifically, what approaches and strategies have movements around the world developed to address the many problems of our food system? And with what results?
