Engagement Description

There are a wide range of community partners that students can engage with in this course, as it relates to their interest area. For example, students in the class this semester (Spring 24) are interning with community partners including Family Service and Guidance Center, Washburn Strength and Conditioning program, and local schools including Highland Park High School, Whitson Elementary, and North Fairview Elementary. The students spend at least 10 hours per week at their site per week. Students will complete time at their community sites where they will learn skills such as mental health assessment and intervention with adults and children, strength and behavioral health coaching, and support services for clients. In addition, they will examine the research literature in their area of interest and present at the end of the year what they have learned from the literature about their topic and how this and the work at their site has influenced their career goals.
