Course Description:

In this course, Arrupe Social Justice Student Scholars will apply their knowledge and abilities to understand the challenges and appropriate avenues by which to advocate for positive social change. Through coursework and Advocacy Field Studies through CSSA*, Arrupe Social Justice scholars will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, research, and analyze what makes an advocacy campaign successful. Students in this course will construct and carry out an advocacy and action project as a capstone experience to demonstrate and fulfill the Arrupe learning goals of “commitment to solidarity” and “advocacy.” *The purpose of Advocacy Field Studies is to give students an opportunity to engage in service-learning through field trip experiences to local organizations that are dedicated to solidarity, advocacy, community organizing, policy change, etc. These experiences are intended to supplement student learning so they can be exposed to professionals in the Cleveland area who are working in careers surrounding advocacy and action on a variety of injustice issues. The Advocacy Field Studies will help students to brainstorm and create their own ideas for their capstone projects for this course/program.
