Center for Community Engaged Learning
Engagement Description
Racial inequality, wealth inequality, food insecurity, and immigration reform - they have interest in other issues, but note that the additional issues are symptoms of larger problems
Experience
I have not formally taught social action. I have had experiences working as a staff member in our community engagement department and in my educational endeavor in my doctorate program at the University of Utah in Education, Culture & Society. I have been an advisor to student groups such as the Diversity & Unity Board as the Diversity & Inclusive Program Coordinator as well as the advisor for our Community Engagement Team in my current department. With our current transition, this series aligns with where we are looking to go. So, personally and professionally, this is great timing!
Interest
I am ready for a hands-on experience with collaborative thinkers who I can learn from while contributing what I know and have experienced. My department is experiencing rapid transition and a shifting mission to align with social change. This work also aligns with my personal and academic interests that I have been a part of for over a decade. As an adjunct instructor and aspiring faculty member, the work presented in this series gets me energized and motivated to embrace the thirst students have about social change and actually foster that growth into something. I am excited about the action piece to this because I do not often experience the "doing" part of this work since academia moves so slow.
