Yes, I teach a course in fall based on theories of social change and leadership, but primarily focused on community issues of our local neighborhood. It is co-taught with a community partner who helps select a service-learning project for the course every time it is offered.
I manage the university's service-learning program. We have over 63 sources and close to 3000 students engaging in service-learning and in my roll I work closely with faculty to create and revise service-learning courses. We are continually trying to find new approaches to the work that are both ethical, fit our Jesuit mission, and tap into the talents and passions of students. I teach a discipline agnostic course on social change every fall I could use this model in, but I would also be eager to familiarize myself with it to introduce as an option to other faculty.
