Read profile here.

Course Description:

Official Description: Conservation strategies enabling communities to build sustainable futures, including the maintenance of healthy and diverse natural environments, renewable natural resources, and sustainable economies. Case studies will be used to identify practical problem-solving approaches by means of integrated lectures and class projects.

Additional Information: This is a course for seniors in the Environmental Studies major. Typically, they conduct semester-long group projects to make a positive contribution to some aspect of sustainability on campus. I envision that could be substituted with a social action component that would extend beyond campus and would integrate students with environmental policy in the local area or region. Since many of our students are from Southwest Florida and will remain here after graduation, this could be the foundation for them to begin lifelong civic engagement with the sustainability issues of their community
