It could be anything during their research project. From LGBTQ+, Social Emotional Learning, DEI, Homelessness / Un housed, forced marriage...etc...
Yes, I have taught it as PD's via theatrical performance. I also would engage my K-12th student's in being Actor-vists. I find that social action must have an actionable step.
I teach K-12 and University level. I feel that this type of social action goes along with project based learning and this knowledge would be invaluable for me at all levels of my teaching. What is more, my mother was a freedom fighter for the South African cause, (Amelia Blossom Pegram), and I feel I would like actionable ways to follow in her footsteps.

teaches 6-8, as well, gifted…woulc consider doing it there…applied in January, but Winter works best; talked to her, very busy! But will hopefully get into her email and approve expectations
