Course Description:
"Bridging Dialogues: Mastering Civil Discourse" is an interactive workshop series focused on empowering participants with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to foster civil discourse and build consensus in various group settings. The series will give an overview of civil discourse competencies and the dynamics of consensus-building.
Learning Outcomes:
Enhanced Active Listening and Empathy Skills: Participants will demonstrate improved active listening and empathy by accurately summarizing others' viewpoints and responding empathetically in group exercises.
Effective Application of Civil Discourse Techniques: Students will apply key civil discourse competencies, such as open-ended questioning and expressing appreciation for differing viewpoints.
Increased Competency in Navigating Difficult Conversations: Participants will navigate challenging conversations using de-escalation and conflict management techniques to find common ground.
Enhanced Consensus-Building Strategies: Students will lead or contribute to consensus-building processes in group projects.
Facilitation of Civil Discourse and Consensus Building: Participants will design and facilitate group discussions that incorporate civil discourse competencies and consensus building strategies.
