Brett,
Thanks for your interest in joining the summer institute. I’m writing all those who are interested to make sure they understand that this is an intensive model for engaging students in policy change social action campaigns. If you have a group for a year, we would imagine your meeting with them once per week for the first semester to develop their campaign plans, which they would then implement in the second semester. Doing the trainings and campaigns would need to become their primary or secondary service placement, with a weekly commitment of probably 5+ hours per week in the first semester when you include the readings and training sessions. In terms of prior experience, it would work well with students in their second or third year in the program (so, sophomores to seniors).
And, if it is academic course, the social action policy change campaigns would take up roughly 50% of the course assignments and in-class time for the semester it is taught.
Is that what you’re thinking?Let me know if this expectation fits your understanding. I would be happy to talk about this with you if that would be helpful. We want to have everyone attending be committed to this model to ensure that everyone is on the same page in our conversations during the training and follow-up work afterwards.
Thanks.Bobby
