Experience
In many of my courses I teach the elements and characteristics of social action due to the nature of the discipline. This includes teaching advocacy in nonprofit management courses. Moreover, I served as the Executive Director of the Homeless Planning Council of Delaware for two years with the responsibility to organize action on behalf of the unhoused population across the state. In addition, I previously oversaw the TSU Community Democracy Project with a colleague that engaged in campus-focused change via focus groups, student exchanges, stakeholder meetings, and outreach to partner organizations. Most aspects of my service and research work have a focus on policy change.
Interest
I am a mentor to students dedicated to social change. I have been on the administrative side of academia for almost a decade now and I want to get back to my roots as a faculty member focused on working with students to engage in action aimed at policy advocacy. With a background in public policy and urban studies, my discipline area is ripe for opportunities to work with students across my department as well as the larger campus to create campaigns to change TSU, Nashville, and/or Tennessee.
