Motivation for Teaching Social Action:

I am a mentor to students dedicated to social change. I have been on the administrative side of academia for almost a decade now and I want to get back to my roots as a faculty member focused on working with students to engage in action aimed at policy advocacy. With a background in public policy and urban studies, my discipline area is ripe for opportunities to work with students across my department as well as the larger campus to create campaigns to change TSU, Nashville, and/or Tennessee.

Course Description:

Urban Housing will review the key components of housing in the urban arena. The objective of the course is to provide an in-depth understanding of the urban housing environment including public housing, homelessness, fair housing, gentrification, suburbanization and the impacts these issues have on individuals and on social relationships. The role of public policy in facilitating and influencing housing development and growth will be the major focus of the course
