Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I want to help my students to engage in social action, and am planning a new module to start in the academic year 2025-26 to do exactly that.
Course Description:
This module follows on directly from the module ‘Sustainability, Science & Society’, and supports you to begin applying the theories, approaches and methods introduced in that module to real interventions to improve relations between science and society in the context of sustainability challenges. You will also develop and build your capacities for evaluating and reflecting on the impacts of these interventions including your own. You will learn through whole-class workshops, practicals and seminar sessions, as well as an extended group project in partnership with an external organisation aiming to intervene in science and society in relation to sustainability challenges, and through self-directed study including structured individual reflections.
