Course Description:
In this course, students dive into deep study of a social justice issue impacting communities in Montreal, reflect on their own connection to these issues, and examine various approaches to social change. This year’s focus is migrant justice, as we consider trends in immigration policies in Canada and around the world; the growth of precarious work in Montreal, from Amazon and Dollarama to chicken farms and late night ride shares; and the intersections of migration and settler colonialism, climate, gender, and more. Students will also explore how to leverage their own power to change policy.
This course will prepare students for the winter Observation course “Solidarity in Action: A Local Perspective” (3000B2DW), an intensive where students will engage in a series of hands-on workshops, activities, and conversations across Montreal and the region, meeting with organizations and individuals impacted by injustice and working to make change.
