Hi Bobby,
Thanks very much for hosting this, I’m looking forward to it. I haven't been part of the teaching team for our course this spring, so the pain points I have in mind are a bit secondhand. But since I'm not sure the teaching team will be able to participate, I wanted to join to gather as much insight as I can. We are planning a comprehensive debrief June 21, so by the time of the institute I should have a much clearer sense of the plus/deltas for the course. The main challenges that I've seen have been around sequencing/timing: how to get students to launch their campaigns and see any kind of progress in our 10-week quarter. Marshall's approach leans heavily on public narrative and constituency building in the first half of the quarter, but that really squeezed the campaigns to the end of the quarter. The second pain point (again just from my perspective) is that we wanted students to generate a campaign from within the small group in the class, and specifically not to bring in a campaign they were already interested in/engaged in. This meant that students had to launch a campaign from scratch, without the benefit of leveraging existing organizing efforts.
So, those are the things that are top of mind right now. But again, I’ll have a much clearer picture after we debrief with the teaching team on the 21st.
I hope all’s well with you – looking forward to catching up and thanks again for hosting.
Best,
Luke
