Motivation to Teach Social Action:
With my research and teaching already focusing on social movements, democratic participation, and grassroots action for sustainability, I want to inspire my students to engage in social action and activism on the ground to help address the many crises of the Anthropocene.
Course Description:
Responsibly navigating and addressing the climate emergency while keeping our sanity is a skill that all of us need to work on. The Critical Carbon Literacy workshop series developed by the UEA Biodiversity and Climate Action Network (BCAN) is dedicated to talking through the basics of the climate crisis, clearing all questions from emissions and consumption to footprints, and building the knowledge, skills, and resilience we need when we want to make change happen through direct social action. Whilst most carbon literacy training stops at disseminating key information on the climate crisis and carbon footprints, these workshops focus on empowering participants to make a difference on the ground by developing critical capacities and unleashing the transformative potential of individual and collective action for sustainability.
